Teaching

I have always been passionate about education. I am very involved in the industry and teach the most current information. I provide my students with real experiences I encounter day to day. While I specialize in the muscular, skeletal and nervous systems, I bring other professionals from the health field into the classroom to add additional resources to my students.

I teach in Southern California at San Diego State University and Mesa College. My courses prepare students to pursue a career in health and fitness. My Exercise Physiology Lab addresses methods by which to assess an individual's body for exercise. The students learn how to use various tools and methods before, during and after a workout to ensure program effectiveness. In Kinesiology I cover human anatomy and movement of the body. The class learns about the musculo-skeletal system and how it communicates with the central nervous system to create motion. The Leadership class I instruct ties all of these aspects together and explores the secrets of a successful fitness professional. In this course I emphasize that communication is crucial to transfer knowledge between the practitioner and the client.

My students are of all ages and some find fitness as a first career, while others are exploring this passion later in life. I combine lecture with discussion and practical experiences to provide various methods of learning. I think it is important to cover useful information and to have fun while you learn.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

"Bev is an amazing teacher. She really cares about the class and the students. She went out of her way to help provide information about different career opportunities."

"Bev was very helpful and nice. She had answers for almost all of our questions and if she didn’t she found the answer or found someone who knew the answer. VERY HELPFUL INSTRUCTOR."

"Great instructor, very understanding and willing to help students get over their insecurities and stand before the class and teach. I learned that with practice and some time management I can teach group fitness and help others meet their physical fitness needs. I plan to become certified as soon as I can and I am much more encouraged to do so because of Bev and this class."

"Bev is very knowledgeable and was a mentor to us. She wanted to help students who were confused about what to do after graduate school, she shared her views."
